All agreements entered into are subject to stamp duty as follows: the Fiji Revenue & Customs Service (FRCS) advises all students who are located and renting under the Tertiary Loans and Scholarship Scheme (TELS) to enter into a lease and have it testified by a Justice of the Peace (JP) or a Commissioner of Oaths before bringing it to FRCS for stamp duty. „We will also need the Tax Identification Number (TIN) for landlords and tenants to verify that the agreement is genuine. In the past, we have had problems where other TEL students have sublet housing to new students who have acted as owners, rented parent/spouse apartments to their own children or spouses as part of the program, and falsified the signatures of landlords and other students on rental contracts.“ said Visvanath Das, Managing Director. .
