Do the teachings really indicate that there is no right or wrong, we do everything that makes us happy? I realize that it was written a few years ago… and I still have to depart from some of the author`s misunderstandings about wisdom in „The Four Accords.“ Note that the beginning of the book on domestication and dreams is an important preface to understanding the power of new chords. This is how all this refers to the four agreements that Ruiz proposes in hindsight. Because we create a gap between ourselves and the world, the universe, and because we create the dichotomy of the judge/victim within ourselves, we live in tension, we feel non-etheistic and dishonest. We make toxic agreements with ourselves and our relationships with others. The four agreements help us replace these toxic agreements with newer, happier agreements. The structure of the four chords is like an oreo: the chords are wedged between spiritual leadership and thought. At the beginning of the book, Ruiz begins with a Toltec mythology and the introduction of the term „the dream of the world“: it is an important condition for understanding the meaning of the chords themselves. We accept all these ideas because we make agreements with ourselves and with the world. We create an inner judge, and that judge judges and punishes us constantly if we do not live up to our agreements. In this trial, we create the guilty victim and we are always punished. „There is only one agreement left, but it is one that allows the other three to become entrenched habits.
The fourth agreement is about the action of the first three: always do your best. In all circumstances, do your best, no more and no less. […] But remember that your best will never be equal any moment. Everything is alive and changing all the time, so the best will sometimes be of high quality, and sometimes it won`t be so good. We do not agree on whether the agreements are complete, but we do not agree with any of them. They are particularly important in the remote relationship, which is distributed work; The distance and the fact that we communicate primarily on the text means that there are so many ways to misunderstand emotions, misinterpret and hurt emotions. „If you live without fear, if you love, there is no room for any of these emotions. If you don`t feel any of these emotions, it makes sense that you feel good.
If you`re feeling good, everything`s fine around you. If everything`s great around you, everything makes you happy. You love everything around you because you love yourself. Because you are the way you are, because you are satisfied with yourself. Because you are happy with your life […] happy with your agreements with life. As if we don`t take anything personal, Ruiz also invites us to study the assumptions we make about ourselves. Only by being aware of the things we say to ourselves, that are within our possibilities or not, and if we cease to make assumptions about what others mean, that we can be happier.
